The keel-laying ceremony of AIDA Cruises’ second LNG-powered cruise ship took place at the Neptun Werft shipyard on the 15th of October, 2019.
The traditional coin was placed by Charleen Hoffman (AIDA Cruise) and Kenny Schaft (Meyer Werft shipyard), two trainees, under the first of the total ninety blocks.
The ship to be named as AIDAcosma and it’s maiden voyage will be from Kiel to the Norwegian fjords and the Baltic Sea in summer 2021.
AIDAcosma will feature a gross tonnage of 183,900, length of 337 m, 20 decks and space for 2,600 staterooms. The cruise ship will have a new feature that is the Fun Park at the stern of the ship which will have a pool for children, a twin water chute and the water slide. The Sports Deck will have a boulder wall for the 1st time. The Pool Deck will be the width of the ship. The three tiered Sun Decks give a lot of space under the Sun. The ship also has 17 restaurants and 23 bars.
With the investment of more than €2 billion in Germany by 2023 along with the building of AIDAcosma and the third cruise ship that will be powered by LNG, the company will further generate jobs in shipbuilding and the maritime supply industry.
