New Arctic LNG 2 Tankers to Cost $4.5 Bn


The fifteen LNG tankers to carry liquefied natural gas from Arctic LNG 2 project will cost over RUB 300 billion (USD 4.49 billion). The overall cost of the project was revealed as part of a session of the Russian state-owned VEB.RF Bank Supervisory Board.

“VEB partners in this project with Novatek and Sovcomflot. The overall cost is over 300 bn rubles. The new vessels with a high ice class are aimed for carrying LNG under the Arctic LNG 2 project. They will navigate the Northern Sea Route and, of course, must comply with the most recent environmental and other requirements”, said RF Premier Dmitry Medvedev.

According to Igor Shuvalov, Chairman of VEB.RF, one vessel will cost approximately $330 mn. The delivery is scheduled for 2024.

He also added that vessel construction ought to be localized at the new shipbuilding complex Zvezda in the Far East. The initial stage Samsung Heavy Industries will act as a technology partner.
