Commodity trading giant Trafigura has placed an order for two very large gas carriers (VLGC) at South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

According to Korean Maeil, Trafigura had been negotiating with HHI for the order since earlier this year and has finally made the decision to order the two 84,000 cu m ships.

“The vessels will deliver in mid-2021 and are intended to form part of our current shipping and trading program,” the spokesperson said.

The scrubber-fitted VLGCs have a reported value of around USD 82 million each.

Trafigura is a leading trader in the LPG market, having traded 82m barrels of LPG in 2018.
